Jhpiego’s Myra Betron and her co-authors discuss the impact of COVID-19 on men’s mental health. Published in BMJ Global Health, the authors of “Meeting men’s mental health needs during COVID-19 and beyond: a global health imperative,” found that on average across countries, 37% of men reported feelings of depression and 34% reported feelings of anxiety. Prevalence was markedly higher among younger men than older age groups and varied substantially between countries. The authors also reported that the data suggest that many men consider mental health a priority and are asking for support.
