Connecting women to care

Community health workers serve a key role in connecting pregnant women to malaria prevention and treatment services. Madelein Kiese Vuandu, a community health worker in Democratic Republic of the Congo, says she serves as a “bridge” to antenatal care services and the medication to prevent malaria in pregnancy.

Breathe—the Oxygen Ecosystem partnership

Supported by USAID’s Oxygen Ecosystem program, Jhpiego trained health care providers in Kenya on therapeutic oxygen use to save lives. The impact was significant: the time between a patient arriving at a hospital and receiving the oxygen they needed improved from 40 minutes to about 13 minutes.

Get Technical: Malaria

In a recently published article, our TIPTOP malaria team in Nigeria reported that pregnant women referred to antenatal care by a community health worker had greater chances of receiving more preventive malaria treatments. They also reported that receiving preventive malaria treatment in the community did not reduce women’s antenatal care attendance.
